Posting for inspiration

I have been trying to write this blog post for the longest time but I have struggled with the right way to approach it. And I guess this close to the New Year is a good time to do it!

As you may, or may not be aware, I have separate I.G account which initially started off as my personal account (away from my makeup posts) and have somewhat merged into a fitness diary of sorts.

20161208_173918

And my news feed had also become much more fitness orientated. But I don’t feel bad about my weight or body shape, fitness level when looking at my feed. Instead it inspires me. I daily see people pushing themselves, sharing their tips, tricks and fitness journey’s and see the physical rewards.

When you post photos of your own workouts, pre/during/post and garner positive comments which makes you feel great. But not only this, people tell you that you are inspiring them?

20161210_153329

Well this encourages you to continue posting on IG, because you are being rewarded with positivity and feel that you are also helping others. This in turn means that to get things to post, fresh photos, you need to get back into the gym. And that helps you move along on your fitness journey.

So when people comment on my IG news feed (which they do) or ask about the photos I upload… it is about accountability. As it is for many of us. It is a way of documenting our journey as once the photo is uploaded, it is date stamped. You can see where you are and where you were. And you also have a reason to keep posting. Because people are waiting to see what you are going to do, wear, they are waiting for your next post so they can continue a conversation. They are waiting for an inspiration. It can act as a motivator.

20161029_110305

So yes, of course the entire episode is self centered, self promoting, it is vain. I won’t argue with you about it. But I would counter argue that it is great, because it is a way of encouraging people to get out and work out and that can only be a good thing (although like all things, only when done in moderation) and it is a great resource, you can find like-minded people, you have access to lots of different people, companies, be it meal ideas, clothing, fitness tips.

20161217_171050

But at the end of the day, it is about accountability, to yourself. It doesn’t matter if someone you follow on IG who lives half way accross the world notices that you haven’t posted for a few days. It doesn’t matter if you are not eating the healthy meals you ‘liked’ when they appeared on your news feed, it really doesn’t matter if you don’t buy any of the cool workout gear that you see in every other photo when scrolling down your feed.

Because at the end of the day, fitness, like anything, is personal. You need to do things for yourself. Not for likes, not for publicity, not for any other reason that I could list. But if you want to use IG as a tool in your fitness journey, as a journal of sorts, it comes with a bunch of benefits!

Nasty Gym Expectation

As some of you may be aware, I have a little bit of a legging obsession. Primarily WIld Bangarang leggings. And as I am trying to be more healthy, get fitter and generally spend more time in the gym, it was important to me to have work out wear that makes me feel good. Now that isn’t to say that I treat the gym list a fashion parade or that I feel that I am being judged, or care what other people think of me when I am working out. I may be vain, I may be shallow…. where was I going with this?

20161029_110305

When I first started working out, I was wearing my full length leggings from Wild Bangarang but I quickly found that I was over heating very quickly – which is impressive as I really only do cardio to warm up and cool down. I concentrate on weights – and as much as I love getting a good sweat on, in this weather, when your legs just feel sticky? No thanks! Luckily, I am a member of my local DW Sports gym, which gives me a discount in their stores, so I shot upstairs and picked up 3 pairs of capri in pretty short succession and felt an immediate difference in my workouts. Including the need for shaved legs. Whoops. Yeah not so good! But like I have said previously and in this blog, Wild Bangarang are a firm favourite for me, comfort and design wise. So I was super pleased when I heard that they would be rebooting their fitness line, and every more impressed with the designs being added to the line.

20161029_115627

So, yes, I had to go give them a go – I picked a ‘Gymnasty’ design that is a new, in house range that comes in 3 different designs currently. I also went for the ‘fit top’ to see how it stood up size wise, I haven’t managed to find one on the high street that fits. They all look so tiny! I wear a sports bra (for obvious reasons) and tend to customise my tops and i like to wear crop/sports tops over my sports bra, both as added support but also to break up the monotony/obvious bra-ness.

The design is really bright, the photos do not do it justice, I love the graffiti effect, and that there is no real, repeating pattern on the legs or top. The capri are really comfortable. They went on easy, and have a drawstring waist which gives you additional security if needed. I was so pumped putting them on. They look fabulous! I initially picked up the top and worried that it wouldn’t fit over my double F’s but it did. A lot more comfortably when I got to the gym and popped it over my sports bra.

20161029_110532

I am writing this, after having worn it just the once, and doing a weight training session rather than cardio. So I can’t really tell you how they hold up when running, or sweating a lot, or much in the way of floor exercises. But I did a lot of moving around, bending, twisting, floor work – they didn’t budge. Unlike some of my other capri’s that I have felt the need to adjust or that sit really low on the hips? They sit quite high and you can easily flip over the waistband for comfort or preference. The material is easily comparable to others on the market, although I do find the material a lot smoother than some of my others. And this isn’t a complaint, I didn’t feel unsafe or slippy while wearing them.

The sports top is another beast entirely, I was pleasantly surprised by the double layering on it. There has certainly been some thought in the comfort and design of this top. It isn’t your standard ‘sports top’ that is really a bralett in a lycra material. They are double layered and although not a perfect fit for a larger cup size (lets be honest, unless you go to a specialist shop, you are going to have to roll with it!) it really is comfortable and gives a much needed pop of colour to a gym kit. I would recommend buying separately and checking your back size when buying the top as it may not be the same size as the capri!

20161029_115226

I am overall, really impressed with Wild Bangarang’s fitness offerings, and am going to have to have a look at the other designs, one thing that led me to the Gymnasty range in particular, is the fact that you can easily mix and match all 3 colour ways. Which I intend to do.

Now, I did share a picture of my, wearing the capri and top combination on I.G – although I haven’t had the guts to wear it to the gym without a vest covering my modesty. I doubt it will be long though, because honestly, I feel so good wearing this combination I will want to flaunt it. I would encourage every one of you to go out and grab a pair, you will see why I am so happy I took the plunge, it does wonders for your self confidence!

Running from inspiration

So I did a rather waffly, self absorbed piece on fitness recently. It was my explanation that as much as I can try to excuse my weight gain on my injury, it isn’t entirely to blame. So I am making some changes, slowly but if you rush into these things they tend not to last.

I went to see my beautiful friend Ren run in the Silverstone half marathon on the 13th March. It wasn’t planned as such, I knew that she had been training to do the London Marathon later this year after smashing Tough Mudder last year. She mentioned Silverstone and since it is just up the road from me, I thought I should go give her some support.

fit3

I used to run, cross country, long distance, with the dog… it was in my soul. I got to the track and felt…. in awe, I felt inspired, I felt sad that I wasn’t also running…. (although the course looks pretty brutal!). We walked over to the finish line to see people coming in, I wasn’t sure where Ren would come in so this seemed like a good place. I was seriously so knocked sideways by the emotions. I cannot really put into words how it feels watching people come over the finishing line, it was a collection of pretty palatable emotions from both spectators and competitors, the joy and in many cases relief as people realised they had finished.

ren1

Now I mentioned that Ren is running in the London Marathon in a few weeks, the Silverstone half marathon is something of a ‘warm up’ for many competitors. Ren has done extremely well, and I am so proud, i may well burst by the time she makes it across the finish line. She is running for Mind – an amazing mental health charity that has helped her personally. It is important that we talk about these things, the work that is done to support people when they aren’t able to access it though the usual channels (as much as we may wish otherwise, resources are finite). They do a fantastic amount or work in the community – if you are interested please click here.

Ren has her reasons for running for Mind – so far she has shaved off her hair and done a half marathon, and as I may have mentioned is also running in the London Marathon. If you have a couple of coins to spare, I know she will appreciate it, as will Mind! Even if you can’t donate, read Ren’s story if you need any further inspiration – please click here to check Ren’s story!

ren

I said that I felt inspired by the runners didn’t I ? I was debating joining the Race for Life and going a gentle walk/job around the course. But being I came to this decision all of 3 weeks ago, I am going to wait until next year and try and train a little. What is difficult for me is that I am a little broken. I only have tarmac to run on, and that will only make my injuries worse. So as much as I may want to get back into running, it just isn’t feasible for me. However I have managed to find a dance class that is 5 mins away and have really enjoyed it! Great to get back into the swing of things!

Now I want to take a moment to talk about muscle memory. It is pretty important and yet something we all manage to forget about. I have danced for a few years, and so when I went back to dance a couple of weeks ago, I found I was able to do things that I didn’t think I would be able to, purely because I have drilled certain moved over the years. I also walk for at least an hour a day to get to and from work, so I am relatively fit. Relatively. I decided on the first day of Spring to go for a bike ride. First time this year, killing two birds with one stone, the boy suggested going to the pet shop as there is a cycle path that takes us to the industrial park. I got into the ride pretty quickly however, the seat… help me the seat! And I am fairly useless at hills. By the end of the ride back, I was getting quite upset at myself and how badly I was coping. But as the boy pointed out – muscle memory. I run, I ride horses, I dance, I lift… bike riding is something I pretty much stop as soon as my booty remembers how uncomfortable it is. Muscle memory – riding is different kettle of fish. Every time you start a new exercise, you are more than likely using a different set of muscles than you are used to. So instead of being discouraged… embrace it. I love feeling sore after exercising. And it is also a great reason to mix up your exercises – using different muscles groups is great and it helps you keep motivated!

bike

So I have bought a new seat for my bike – I will keep you updated with that and the rest of my fitness journey!

Look good getting sweaty

Wait…. hang on a moment, is that even possible?!

Well it is that time of year, we have all eaten and drank with abandon over the last couple of week, or even the month with various socialising we all do in the run up to Christmas and the New Year.

So this isn’t going to be one of those preachy articles you read at this time of year telling you to get into a gym. Hell, I haven’t been to a gym for a while – actually, can I tell you a secret, I cancelled my sub today.

But you know what, I have said it before, and I will say it again. Gyms and working out is not a bad thing, and yes people will look at you. I mean you notice people in the street, this is just another excuse for people watching. And I know a lot of my friends have commented on how they prefer to work out at home because they prefer not to be noticed.

motivation

And my answer to this is, wear something that makes you both look & feel comfortable. People are going to look at you, well give them something to look at.

So with this in mind, instead of telling you all, get to the gym, get healthy, feel great. Although I full encourage you to do this. No, I am writing this to give you some ideas of how to look kick ass while at the gym. Or in your own home 🙂

I am going to start at the top – now, I am a geek *gasp* and so I do follow cosplayers – one of which Pipa Wolf Cosplay has recently opened an etsy store – which I obviously had to check out. And I am glad I did, she has some really cute accessories, there are a couple of gym t shirts available – both vest and standard t shirt style. Gym as in Pokemon gym 🙂 I had to buy both in the vest style as I really couldn’t decide which I prefer. Her etsy store is called Side Quest Designs – please go check it out.

12068481_10153191941154013_8333722621544210056_o

I wasn’t sure what the quality would honestly be like, having no idea where the base was being sourced. So I am happy to confirm that the quality is good – I also washed the shirts when I got them – which is another standard test which many screen printed shirts fail. And again, aced the test, no sticking or stretching. So if you want a couple of cute tops to wear, and show your geeky side while working out – I highly recommend them. And how knows, might help you make new friends with similar interests at the gym!

12109939_10153191941224013_3488749112619598881_o

So you have your top sorted out, what about your bottom half? Now, I am a leggings kinda girl, I have got jogging bottoms but I have never felt entirely comfortable wearing them. And while I appreciate the billions that goes into designing yet another pair of black exercise leggings, I am going to have to go with Wild Bangarang to complete my look. They have got a dedicated fitness wear section – Wild Storm Fitness. But I just wear a pair of the basic leggings – any which are at hand when I put them out of the leggings basket. Yeah judge away, I have a basket full of leggings 🙂

I won’t bore you massively, as my love for these leggings are pretty well documented – but there are a couple of new lines which are very different but also perfect for the gym – I can only review on, although I am lusting after the other!

The first line is Kokonuzz which are just a cute fun, cartoony line of leggings – both in children and adult lines. The colours are bright and the characters are fun – I have Finn and Otto and they make me smile just wearing them. So if anything is going to make you feel more upbeat about going to the gym….. well possibly the walking back out high on endorphins – these leggings will be it 🙂 So if you want something bright to cheer up a dreary day in January…. well look no further!

12015082_468088986729731_8765132947148198907_o

The second line that Wild Bangarang have recently released the Geekweave Collection which are armour based designs which initially started a kickstarter project. I am so happy that WB have taken them on, and really the only reason I haven’t bought any yet, is I am genuinely struggling to decide which ones! If you are on the fence about armour style leggings, which are not traditional style you may be expecting. I fully support your decision to buy the entire collection. Go. Go now!

12366099_491934211011875_3884575489965427521_o

Well okay, you may want a little more information that about the leggings that ‘hey they look cool’ … which they do. I have been wearing WB leggings since the brand launched over a year ago. Honestly, I would not have seen myself as a nylon, bright prints, kinda girl. Staying safe with jumpers, and black legging.. However, I am a complete convert. I will generally be found in a pair of leggings at any opportunity. What I do love about this brand especially is that the pattern doesn’t fade out. I don’t have to worry about it dispersing over my generally booty. The length is great for me – I am an average 5’7″ and there is legging to spare which is great when prancing around a gym. I never find myself pulling them up or creeping up my calf. And a lot of their newer ranges like Geek Weave are produced in the UK – the cut is so nice and comfy.

So when you are putting together your gym kit, have a moment’s pause – do you want to fit in with the crowd wearing bland greys and blacks. Or do you want to wear some bright colours and show a little geeky side off? Not a difficult choice is it 🙂

Adam rocking a pair of Wild Bangarang leggings!

And if you are wondering, I signed up to a new gym today – closer and cheaper – win win.

feline persuasion

So, over the past few months i have written about a number of topics ranging from my rather public wig addition, my out of control love of nylon and I have discussed makeup, how wonderful it is, done a couple of walk through for you. And I have thrown in the odd photo of my cat.

Barbeque. It is surprising that I have managed to last this long without writing about him. I have taken a little break (sorry!) which was much needed as I was suffering over the last couple of months. Not really taking a day off for 4 months will do that to a girl!

1143

But I am straying from the point of the post, which is my cat – whoops! I understand that not everyone likes cats, but I am assuming anyone who hates cats will have twigged before stage that this is not the article for them!

So, a little bio I guess is in order – I bought Barbeque just over 10 years ago now. When I first met my partner, he had a cat which was sadly run over. When I moved in with him, I begged him to let me have a cat and eventually her agreed to this – on the condition that it is a male cat. He didn’t really go into it more than neutering is less invasive. So the hunt was on.

Eventually I saw a post in the local pet shop, called the number and arranged to go pick up the only male kitten. Now – I know it sounds ironic for me to be saying this on the back of previous blog posts – so I should explain. At the we were living about the family shop in a flat with no real access to and from, near a main road. We knew we would not be granted a rescue cat.

1005

We got to the address, and went through to the kitchen, near the door was a box with 2 very inquisitive tabby kittens, and at the other end of the kitchen was the mother and a black kitten studiously ignoring up from the top of the scratching post. One of the tabby kittens planted herself on Pete’s show and started doing her level best to tie herself onto it. Yes, both the tabby kittens were female. Our cat was the one on the scratching post. It broke my heart not to take the kitten attached to Pete’s show. I would have done, had I bought more money with me. We left with a black kitten bundled into my coat – at 10 weeks he was still tiny.

When we got home, we set everything up in the living room, there being plenty of room for him to explore and allowing us to keep an eye on him. And it was heart breaking watching him and listening to him look for his mother.

1141

I didn’t know what to call him, and we got him to the vet within a week … so he was registered as Bob…. not inspiring really… shortly after, I was sitting with him in the living room trying out other names, Pete was (and still is to a degree) convinced he was deaf as he refused to respond. So I rattled off names, in the hope he would acknowledge on of them (scene very similar to the movie Beethoven) and I was getting frustrated, and threaten to Barbeque him …. well the rest is history I guess?! For the record, he still does his level best to ignore Pete. Which I have pointed out, is an entirely male habit so he has only his self to blame.

Fairly sure the cats ears were burning has he has just come back in from making sure everything is in order in the garden, and is curled up next to me. I got a Notebook for Christmas which allows me to do a lot more of my work from the comfort of my living room. The added benefit, is not only comfort, but my cat not shouting at me for being out of place. But that is for another blog post!

I will write more on my silly old bag puss, but for now, wee will love you and leave you.

New Year …. New You ?!

I hate New Year resolutions. I am not the biggest fan of Christmas and it is getting worse with ever passing year. Whereas once it was a lovely time to spend time with family, share gifts to make someone smile. Now there is a lot of pressure, both financial, pressure to find perfect gifts, family members causing additional drama, have you forgotten anyone, getting them posted in good time, work pressures…. Yeah okay, being an adult sucks.

111023-funny-random-happy-memories

But there are ways of combatting this – to try and remember the good things, positive vibes, even spread some of the positivity around!

So to keep with the season, I have seen some suggestions about using the 12 days of Christmas to post twelve things that are nice, good, happy, beautiful etc. There have been many incarnations of this – posting a super hero, 3 positive things a day, pictures of baby animals, a week of flowers etc. Not only does it prompt you to look for happy things, seeing it crop up on your news feed will also encourage others. And I feel that the one positive a day, is entirely more manageable than 3 + per day for a week. Sorry, that sounds negative but it might seem a lot for people and stop them from even joining in. And as one friend on my news feed pointed out, it can be anything, including seeing a beautiful sun set/rise.

Sunset Horse Latitudes By The Family Dog

Another thing, that I have enabled in others, is a hope/wish/cheer jar. It comes in many names, and formats. I enjoy glass painting so I have made these for friends before. On New Year’s day, you start writing out on a note, scrap, anything, something happy, positive, something that made your day, made you smile. You pop it in the jar. Now this is a long haul kinda thing, you then keep going all year. And when, like many of us, you are starting to feel the pressure of the last year, all those things you didn’t do, all those resolutions long forgotten, all those missed adventures, you open the jar and all those happy memories are brought back to you. There is nothing stopping you from looking at them throughout the year – It is a personal thing.

Something else, that I do on my makeup page – giveaways. This has no personal gain for me, although it is a selfish act. I like to see people happy. So every so often I announce a giveaway. It mostly involves makeup (funny that) and anything else that takes my fancy – I don’t plan too far ahead as I want to make sure that the recipient can use it – so I ask for any allergies, dietary restrictions etc. There really isn’t any reason other than I want to make people happy. Often we don’t treat ourselves so having a surprise turn up in the post can make someone smile. I have been lucky enough to make friends out of this so that is another bonus. In the last giveaway, I had a couple of pairs of Wild Bangarang leggings to give away and a voucher for Revenge Wigs which went down really well.

095

And something else I started this year, well 2 fold, I started writing to pen pals again. It is a lot of fun getting to know people and sending little gifts to each other. It isn’t regular, and can be a while in between but it is always nice to come home to a letter, and making time to stop and read! And there are ‘swap projects’ being organised – some local, or international where you write a short piece, state if you would prefer a local or international partner and write a short bio so your match partner is a good fit but has something to go on when writing to you. I joined the Oh Comely Magazine Perfect Strangers swap project and recently had a care package from my partner. I really enjoyed the whole process – not the bio part of it, because I always end up reading someone else’s and thinking.. WOW they put that so much better. But this particular project is great because it gives you a theme as well as guidance. I loved reading my partners letter, and her stocking was full of amazing things. It was also really nice putting together something for her. And in fact have another little package and letter ready to go out.

What I am trying to say, is … don’t be hard on yourself, don’t pressure yourself to do or be anything. And it is nice to share and spread the love. Giving to others, even if it is just a postcard, can make you feel good 🙂

Life in plastic… is fantastic?

So last week I touched on the difference between real and online friends – it was a topic on the radio show, and there was split opinion. I am firmly in the ‘internet friends are real friends’ while my co host feels that they are entirely separate creatures. Now, I use social media a lot, and there are a variety of friends, some are purely online, and I am unlikely to ever meet them. Others are people I have known for years, but am no longer geographically close to, others are work friends, current and old, there are networking friends, of course, there are people who actually realise I am not a cat, and see through my filtered photos on I.G.

12111998_10156090514695557_2583714434056517416_n

As touched on in a recent blog, social media can be a lifeline for many – there is someone you can speak to, you can let your hair down, be yourself without the same responsibilities that you have in your ‘real life’ there is a reason after call, the phrase ‘on the internet, nobody knows you are a cat’ was coined. I have moved around so much in my life, although I am finally (touch wood) settled, it has meant I don’t have the same support network that many of my peers seem to enjoy. It is nice to know that I can still keep in touch with people I have met and shared my life with. One thing that I have realised – Social Media can be a fantastic support tool. I really wish I had had this support network in my early twenties. Since a lot of us move around, and don’t have the friends and family close enough to lean on, I have realised what a great help it can be. Being in groups of people who may have similar interests but not necessarily same life experiences, or opinions. That can help, advise, offer opinions, or even just understand what you are going through. And often, being able to type out something in its entirely without interruption, worry that you are boring someone, and getting opinions of several people and not just one person. It can be great because you will not always just get the answer you are looking for.

143

It is odd, I am actually more likely to have you as a FB contact than your phone number. Asking for someone’s number to me, feels very intrusive but FB … it is all there. You have a degree of control over what people see. And it requires as little or as much investment as you want. How many people do you add and never hear a peep from? And what about when you don’t hear back from people – it is that strange situation – ‘ghosting’ is the term I believe – where people are there … but not there. With people you see, or don’t see, it is easier to reconcile the situation, you grew apart, life got in the way, it wasn’t really a strong bond. When it is on line, the amount of investment, certainly in time and effort, is much less so to be ‘dumped’ by someone online… it feels worse? I mean what does the occasional like hurt? Just check in with a comment once in awhile?

377568_10151686365497224_1275863314_n

I love my on line community – I have had so many opportunities, and learnt so much – for example, if it wasn’t for the amazing RoxyLee (ROxyLee’s FB page) I would not have been so inspired by Special FX makeup. She took the time to not only share her amazing work, but talked me through a number of techniques, and was just so happy to help. But I do view facebook as a tool, as an opportunity to network. And it is important to remember it is nothing more than a tool and not a replacement for human contact.

RoxyLee as Harley shot by SuperHero Creations by Adam Jay

12118833_907692795991238_22116912401455100_n

But as much as I adore my on line friendships and community, it is important to stay connected in real terms – in a recent magazine article it looked at how social loneliness is one of the biggest issue facing society- so a couple of points to remember. It isn’t important how many people you have on your friends list if you never go and see them. Make sure you are making dates to go meet people, shopping, having a coffee etc. When you are alone, utilise it, pamper yourself, read that book you have been meaning to for ages, do some exercise, craft. Remember that if you feel lonely, it is because you need a social connection. Even if your friends are available (real life can be a complete bitch like that) maybe find something new to do. Local councils offer a wide range of short courses, you could sign up to a gym, join a class, pop into your local book shop and ask for advice on new reads, go to events organised by local businesses. Try old interests and new. And at this time of year, there are lots of opportunity to volunteer and help people, shelters, soup kitchens etc. So you will be helping people and meeting new people. Win/win situation 🙂

The meaning .. of life?

42? Right? No ? Was I was sleeping while you all grew up around me?

In my first reboot blog, I explained my relationship to makeup and to some extent, wigs, how my relationship has changed throughout the years… (aborted green period anyone) and I have since gone on to share my love for the art of makeup, wigs, playing dress up…

I was chatting to a friend on I.G earlier today, and debating what my next blog should be about (I have usually 2 or 3 ongoing… occasionally I even publish them!) … he suggested, and I will quote ‘About how life, about how we change, age and think differently .. if you knew how long you had left, would you use your time differently?

Some biggies there to tackle so let us go slowly, don’t worry, I am right here, I will hold your hand!

So in my very abrupt bio, I have stated that my job doesn’t inspire me. No, it really doesn’t, not to any meaningful degree. A wise person once told me, that there is no reason to blame anyone else for the situation you find yourself in, as you, and only you are the one responsible. And I have to say, that did change my outlook. I have spent years bemoaning one thing or another, parents, school, boys. But at the end of the day, I am the one saying yes or no.

So in that respect, I have changed, I have learnt to accept that I am the one writing my storyline. And I am making the best of it. I have become a lot more relaxed, and looked for outlets outside my day job. This started with makeup, I love makeup. You know that already. Right? And that then moved to wigs, cosplay… generally dressing up and pretending to be someone else (occasionally I even pretend to adult!).

I have been really lucky, because of the makeup, to meet a really encouraging mentor, and through her, worked with a theatre group, have done a fan film, did the VT for a show as well as backstage and general running around. And most recently it has resulted in my being on radio. I have learnt that being out of your comfort zone is a good thing, that sometimes jumping without looking first results in things other than broken bones. Yeah, one of those annoying people. But if it makes you feel any better, I get hijacked into things and rarely have time to really think about it. So I am not entirely cured!

Well… the big question… it is one that keeps getting bandied around isn’t it … if you had an expiry date, would you do anything differently. Or the other is, if you could go back and tell your teenage self something….

I hate to be THAT person… no! No I wouldn’t do anything differently because I am the person today, because of the things I have done, the people I have met, the people who raised me up, those who tried to drag me down. But if I knew when I would be leaving this world? I wouldn’t let it dictate what I did or how I treated people. I would love to say I would go travelling, see all the things I wanted to, go visit family, far flung friends… of course that is on the bucket list among other things. If it happens, it happens. I will keep aiming to do all the things on that mental check list. If it doesn’t happen. It wasn’t meant to be 🙂

Tis the season… To don your Leggings!

It is that time of year, it is officially autumn now, september is already ticking by fast. It is bright but there is a chill in the air.

What is a girl to do now….

WEAR LEGGINGS!

I implore you all do to this! It is the perfect weather for it, they are comfortable and go with anything! Now last year, I discovered printed nylon. What I hear you cry, what about Black Milk, Living dead… I hear you. I honestly do. But I have never really felt comfortable paying the prices. I work in a conservative environment so I knew I wouldn’t be able to get away with wearing them at work, which leaves the gym or weekends.

Wild Bangarang jumped onto the nylon scene last year and quickly I found myself in possession of quite a collection. I can’t put a finger on what exactly prompted this. It is a combination of the designs, price, that it is a small, local (relatively speaking) business, and did I say designs already?

I have to say, there is something about wearing WB leggings that gives me a little swagger in my walk. I get looks, but since I have no body issues where my legs are concerned I welcome it. I have been stopped on several occasions to ask where I got them, the most unusual was when a woman stopped me a couple of times to comment on them – see the featured image – and told me I look like Spiderman’s girlfriend.

Now don’t think for a moment that I am telling you to give up the black leggings – they have their place, and Batman knows i have enough knocking about. But before you automatically reach for your faithful black leggings, think WB instead. They will instantly cheer up any outfit – when you are just planning on wearing a jumper, or if you are hitting the gym and want something to cheer up the tired old gym wear.

I used to dance before injury to keep fit and socially, and one thing that I always did, I think it was just something in the scene, I always dressed up and was bright and flamboyant. When I had to switch to more traditional gym sessions, I just wasn’t inspired. A baggy vest or t shirt and a pair of leggings. But actually as much as I don’t feel like spending a lot of money on clothing to sweat in, WB leggings do great double duty. I can wear one pair to the gym, and another on the way out. And I do feel, just as they put a spring in my step normally, they inspire me to push a little harder in the gym.

It is all in my head, these leggings are not magic. They may well be magical though – do buy a pair and let me know what you think?
